THE WEEKND - ANNIVERSARY ALBUM:
Personal Design Project. (2021)

BRIEF:
I based this project around TheWeeknd, and how his sound and design evolved throughout his career. I decided to focus on the area of design within music, and how a designer can create something that supports the music and visualises the sound. I designed an anniversary vinyl, accompanied with a zine to accomplish this.

VINYL:
For the vinyl design, I wanted the cover to include photography from each era of TheWeeknd's career, so this is what I used to design it. However, I also wanted to make the design of this more unique since the concept for this was an anniversary edition vinyl. To do this, I wanted to have a vinyl sleeve, that would then be removed to show the full cover. For the back, I wanted to use waveforms in the design to visually represent the sound of each song, which also links into the design of the zine as they are used within the design for that as well.

ZINE:
I wanted to make sure the page designs within this zine represented the sound of each of the eras well. For each of them, I made sure they linked into the previously established design aesthetic already used within TheWeeknd's designs, so that it would work realistically with the concept of the anniversary album for the fans. Each page contains lyrics from a specific song from the album the page is based on, with a waveform from the same song. I felt the waveforms were a good way to visualise the sound of the music, which is why I utilised them within the design for this zine. I made a playlist for the concept album that the zine is attached to, which you can check out on the left!
